The French brand Hoka is one of the youngest running brands on the market. Its history began in 2010, when former Salomon developers Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard were looking for new ways to develop running shoes and laid the foundation for one of the most progressive manufacturers of running shoes today. The company works with the idea that a runner should feel free, whether running in nature or in the city. The name Hoka comes from the ancient Maori language and loosely translates to "Now is the time to fly".
You can clean and keep your running shoes looking great with everyday household items, even if they get wet or muddy. The process can be a bit laborious, but your shoes will last significantly longer if cleaned properly. Remember that using a washing machine or dryer will wear out your running shoes faster, so we recommend cleaning your shoes in the following way:
1. Remove the laces
You can throw the laces in the laundry with your running clothes and wash them on a cold cycle with regular detergent (TIP: you can put them in a sock to keep them from getting lost or tangled).
2. Remove excess mud and dirt
Remove mud and dirt from all exterior parts of the shoes, first with a dry paper towel and then with a dry toothbrush for finer details.
3. Clean the shoes with a non-abrasive solution
Mix a small drop of your chosen soap (a natural, dye-free detergent, dish soap, or even anti-dandruff shampoo can work well) with cold water and gently work the brush into the dirty areas of your shoes and insoles until a lather forms. Continue until the dirt is gone. Blot the dirty water away with a dry towel or cloth. Then, wipe away any remaining soap suds with a towel or cloth dampened with cold water.
4. Dry the shoes
Your shoes (including insoles) should now be clean, if they are a little damp, wipe them with a dry cloth. You can then stuff them with newspaper and leave them to dry overnight (TIP: keep the insoles separate and do not leave your shoes outside to speed up drying with a strong heat source – both sunlight and direct heat can warp the shoes).
